The Liko FreeSpan portable gantry hoist system is equipped with lockable wheels that improve positioning for specific tasks and enable portability. The FreeSpan gantry system is a flexible patient hoist solution for most transfer situations up to 250 kg. The lift system is freestanding (gantry). Since it is not affixed to the building structure, there are no special strength requirements for walls and ceilings.
The FreeSpan straight rail gantry is made of lightweight aluminium. Many different rail lengths are available. It can be fitted with either a Likorall Multirall or Likorall lift motor. The Liko FreeSpan is also available in a traverse model. The Liko FreeSpan Traverse is a freestanding system that enables the lifting and transfer of patients between many different lifting points. Essentially it is a freestanding XY hoist (H track).

The individual’s risk assessment and care plan for hoisting should specify
- Which hoist to use for which task
- Type and size of sling and any configurations of loops or leg attachments
- Use of additional safety devices such as safety belts
- Number of carers needed to carry out the task
- Include any other relevant information specific to the person being hoisted
You must communicate this information to staff and keep it accessible for easy reference. It is common practice to include assessments in individual care plans or profiles and provide an additional quick reference guide in a convenient place.
It is important that safe working procedures are followed during hoisting to avoid accidents that can result in serious or fatal injuries.
