Key Features of the Adapt A Home Narrow Stairlift
Ultra-slim rail
Slimmer profile than standard stairlift rails, leaving maximum clear space on the staircase for other household members to pass safely.
Fold-away armrests and footrest
When not in use, everything folds flat against the chair, keeping the staircase as clear as possible for the household.
Battery-powered:
The stairlift continues to operate safely during a power cut.
Safety sensors:
Automatic stop if an obstruction is detected on the staircase, protecting the user and others in the home.
On-site modular rail system
The rail is assembled on-site from modular sections. No waiting for factory-made parts, no delays, and adjustments can be made during installation.
Automatic swivel seat
The seat rotates automatically at the top and bottom of the stairs, always stepping off facing away from the steps. Safer and more practical in tight spaces where turning room is limited.
Different Designs to Suit Your Narrow Staircase
Not every narrow staircase is the same. Some are straight and tight, others curve, wind or include half-landings and tight turns. Adapt A Home has a solution for each.
For straight, narrow staircases, the ICON UP Lift Straight fits from 600mm wide. For narrow curved staircases, the Adapt A Home ICON UP Lift Curved is assembled on-site to follow the exact layout of the staircase, fitting from 660mm wide. Every stairlift comes with a seatbelt, automatic safety sensors and smooth controlled movement at the top and bottom of the stairs. Controls are simple and intuitive, designed for confident and comfortable independent use every time.
Adapt A Home recommends the right stairlift for the staircase, not the most expensive one. A free home survey in London is the only accurate way to confirm what will fit. One of our engineers will visit, measure accurately and give a clear, honest recommendation on the day, with no obligation to buy.

Take the First Step Towards a Safer Home
Not sure whether a stairlift will fit your narrow staircase? Do not assume it cannot be done. Adapt A Home specialises in narrow and difficult staircases where other companies have said no, and in most cases, a safe and practical solution exists.
Book a free home survey at a time that suits you. One of our engineers will visit the property, measure the staircase accurately and give a clear recommendation on the day. There is no obligation to buy, no pressure and no cost involved.
Three Solutions for Narrow Staircases
Slimline Seated Stairlift
For Reduced Effort & Extra Support
Please note: a perching stairlift requires the user to be able to stand safely and maintain balance throughout the journey. If your mobility is likely to change over time, a seated model is a better long-term investment, as a perching stairlift can become unsuitable quickly if standing becomes difficult

Common Concerns About Narrow Staircases
My walls are not strong enough to support a stairlift
Stairlifts are never attached to the walls. They are always secured to the stair treads. Wall strength is not a factor, even in older properties with lath and plaster walls.
My stairs are too steep.
Most stairlifts handle stair pitches from standard angles up to around 72 degrees. Steep stairs are a common feature of older UK homes and are not usually a barrier to installation.
Another company said it cannot be done.
Different companies work with different models and different levels of experience. We regularly fit stairlifts in homes where another company has already said no. Our survey is free and there is no obligation. It is always worth getting a second opinion.
I live in a period or listed property.
Because stairlifts attach to the stair treads and not the walls, installation rarely requires any structural changes. This makes them suitable for period properties and in most cases listed buildings.
Help With the Cost
Disabled Facilities Grant
The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a government-funded scheme that can contribute towards the cost of a stairlift for eligible applicants in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It is means-tested and administered by your local council.
Your occupational therapist can refer you, or you can apply directly through your local authority. We can also help you with the information needed to apply and guide you through the process.
