The Ares 5 alternating pressure redistribution air mattress replacement system is designed for patients vulnerable to pressure injuries, it helps users prevent pressure sores. The air pump allows you to select two different modes: in alternating mode, this pressure redistribution air mattress can continuously and sequentially inflate air cells to achieve periodic pressure relief, while in static mode, it inflates all the air cells equally for a static mattress surface, allowing caregivers to conduct nursing activities.

What’s the difference between the two cover options?

There are two different coverings available for the same price. Please select the desired option from the drop-down menu above. The two options are:

  • The nylon polyurethane cover is quilted for patient comfort and can effectively wick away moisture from the surface to aid in microclimate management. It can be washed at 60°C
  • The 4-way stretch polyurethane cover, which is highly elastic, offers reduced friction and minimises shear force. It can be washed at 95°C

Key benefits and features of the Ares 5 Air Mattress replacement system

  • Prevents the formation of bedsores and provides exceptional levels of comfort
  • The quick connector between the mattress and air filter comes with a cap for sealing the pressure during transport, providing a stable patient transportation surface for up to 8 hours
  • The antimicrobial filter removes bacteria and viruses from the air that is used to inflate the air cells
  • Considerably low-pressure range applied to the patient, from 30 to 60 mmHg in both therapy modes
  • Provides a constantly comfortable perception while still retaining sufficient support for the patient
  • Flame retardant materials help improve fire safety
  • CPR strap allows you to rapidly deflate the mattress in the event of an emergency
  • Air cells are 8″ long for better immersion and enhanced pressure care performance
  • A low-pressure alarm warns you with a visual LED alert if there are any problems, such as disconnections or leaks

What material Is the Ares 5 Air Mattress replacement system made from?

  • The air cells are constructed from durable, lightweight nylon polyurethane material with high resistance to mechanical tears
  • All materials are compatible with REACH and RoHS standards

Who can benefit from pressure redistribution systems?

  • Pressure redistribution systems primarily help people who are at risk of developing bedsores, otherwise known as pressure ulcers
  • It’s estimated that close to half a million people in the UK will develop a pressure ulcer in any given year
  • 5% of people who are admitted to the hospital with a sudden illness will develop a pressure ulcer
  • People over 70 years old are particularly vulnerable to pressure ulcers, as they are more likely to have mobility problems and ageing skin

How reliable is the Ares air mattress replacement system at redistributing pressure?

This mattress replacement system was tested using the Pressure Redistribution Index while in alternating mode, it was under 32mmHg for 100% for the entire 30-minute period. Even in static mode, the pressure redistribution index remained below 60mmHg. In simpler terms, this product is superb at redistributing pressure to prevent bedsores and other pressure-related injuries.

If you’re in a hospital or care home, your healthcare team should be aware of the risk of developing pressure ulcers. They should carry out a risk assessment, monitor your skin and use preventative measures, such as regular repositioning.

VAT Relief for the Disabled

What is VAT relief?

We have compiled this small guide to help you understand who is and who isn’t eligible to claim VAT relief on disability aids available to buy on this website. VAT relief allows chronically ill or disabled people to buy eligible items at 0% tax rather than the current standard rate of  VAT – saving them a significant amount of money.

Who is eligible for VAT relief?

To be eligible for VAT relief the government says that you have to fit the following criteria:

  • Charities – simply provide us with your charity number.
  • A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if they are a person:
    • With a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon their ability to carry out everyday activities; with a condition that the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes; or who is terminally ill.
  • Important to note: It does NOT include a frail elderly person who is otherwise able-bodied or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.

What proof do we need to provide?

The government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability at the time of order in order to waive VAT on an eligible purchase. No proof of your disability need be shown to any party at any time. It is easy to claim VAT relief, all we need to know is the full name, full address and what their chronic sickness or disability is. We do not need a doctor’s letter or any reference numbers as long as we have the requested details.

The above information can be provided to us during the checkout. If you order online, by phone or by post we will send you a form and a free return envelope asking you for the above information and a signature.

Displayed prices

If you see a small purple banner or text link with the words, “VAT relief available” or a price shown with “with VAT relief” after it, then VAT relief can be claimed on that particular item.

Things to remember

  • We do NOT decide if an item is or isn’t exempt and we don’t make any more or less money if we charge you VAT or we don’t charge you VAT
  • The details you provide are private and strictly confidential. They can only be viewed on our secure private company network and will be made securely available to the UK Government HMRC should they request any clarification on your purchase.
  • If you do not complete the VAT relief form, or you are not eligible for VAT relief, we are obliged to charge you the full prevailing VAT on the whole of your order
  • Not all products are eligible for VAT relief, so we are obliged to charge VAT at the prevailing rate for those products that are not VAT exempt, even after you complete this form
