Head Protection Designed for Those with Alzheimer’s

Elderly adaptahome

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects memory, cognition, and behaviour. As the disease advances, individuals with Alzheimer’s may become more prone to falls and accidents, increasing the risk of head injuries. To address this concern, there are head protection products available that are specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s. In this article, we will explore some of the head protection products that can help protect individuals with Alzheimer’s and enhance their safety and well-being.

Soft helmets

Soft helmets are designed to provide gentle cushioning and protection for the head. They are made from soft materials, such as foam or fabric, and are comfortable to wear for extended periods. Soft helmets offer impact absorption and reduce the risk of head injuries in case of falls or collisions. These helmets are lightweight, adjustable, and have straps that keep them securely in place. Soft helmets are an ideal choice for individuals with Alzheimer’s who may have a higher risk of falling or bumping their heads.

Impact-resistant headbands

Impact-resistant headbands are another effective option for head protection in individuals with Alzheimer’s. These headbands are designed to provide cushioning and absorb impact forces during falls or accidents. They typically have padded inserts made from foam or similar materials. Impact-resistant headbands are lightweight, comfortable to wear, and do not obstruct vision or hearing. They are particularly suitable for individuals who are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and may still be active and mobile.

Protective caps

Protective caps are specifically designed to offer head protection for individuals with Alzheimer’s who are at a high risk of falls. These caps provide coverage to the entire head and have padding to absorb impact. Protective caps are usually made from soft, flexible materials that contour to the shape of the head. They often have adjustable straps to ensure a secure and comfortable fit. Protective caps are an excellent option for individuals with advanced stages of Alzheimer’s or those who have significant mobility issues.

Customised headgear

In some cases, customized headgear may be necessary to meet the specific needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s. Customization can involve tailoring the size, padding, and features of the headgear to fit the individual’s head shape and unique requirements. Working with healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists or assistive technology specialists, can help determine the best customization options for optimal protection and comfort.

Head protection products designed specifically for individuals with Alzheimer’s play a crucial role in preventing head injuries and enhancing their safety. Soft helmets, impact-resistant headbands, protective caps, wanderer’s helmets, and customized headgear are all viable options to consider based on the individual’s needs and stage of Alzheimer’s. It is important to select head protection products that offer comfort, a secure fit, and adequate impact absorption. By utilizing appropriate head protection, we can promote the well-being and safety of individuals with Alzheimer’s, allowing them to engage in daily activities with reduced risks and greater peace of mind for their caregivers.

VAT Relief for the Disabled

What is VAT relief?

We have compiled this small guide to help you understand who is and who isn’t eligible to claim VAT relief on disability aids available to buy on this website. VAT relief allows chronically ill or disabled people to buy eligible items at 0% tax rather than the current standard rate of  VAT – saving them a significant amount of money.

Who is eligible for VAT relief?

To be eligible for VAT relief the government says that you have to fit the following criteria:

  • Charities – simply provide us with your charity number.
  • A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if they are a person:
    • With a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon their ability to carry out everyday activities; with a condition that the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes; or who is terminally ill.
  • Important to note: It does NOT include a frail elderly person who is otherwise able-bodied or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.

What proof do we need to provide?

The government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability at the time of order in order to waive VAT on an eligible purchase. No proof of your disability need be shown to any party at any time. It is easy to claim VAT relief, all we need to know is the full name, full address and what their chronic sickness or disability is. We do not need a doctor’s letter or any reference numbers as long as we have the requested details.

The above information can be provided to us during the checkout. If you order online, by phone or by post we will send you a form and a free return envelope asking you for the above information and a signature.
